Birth, Death and Marriage Records
Birth Records are available from 1880 thru 1919 and 1942 thru the current date. Birth records for the years 1921 thru 1941 are filed at the Iowa Dept of Public Health in the vital records section.
Single Parent births prior to 07/01/1995 are confidential and only may be obtained at the Iowa Department of Public Health.
You may call them at 515-281-4944 using a credit card for an additional fee to obtain these records or mail in a completed application.*
* Certified copies are available at a fee of $20.00 to persons of entitlement.
Entitlement meaning, the person named on the record (if 18 years or older), mother or father (if named on the record), spouse, brother or sister (must show proof of entitlement), maternal or paternal grandparents (if father is named on the record).
Children who have been adopted need to obtain their Birth records from the Iowa Department of Health and may do so by either mailing in an application or phoning 515-281-4944.
SIGNATURES ON THE APPLICATIONS MUST BE NOTARIZED AND BE ACCOMPANIED BY A COPY OF A STATE ISSUED I.D.*

Certified Death Certificates are available (with the exception of 1905 and 1906 and some 1921 thru 1941) if the death occurred in Crawford County. The excepted years may be obtained from the State Vital Records Office.
Certified copy fee is $20.00 each.
Certified copies of Marriage Certificates are available for $20.00 each if the Marriage Application was applied for in Crawford County. An application must be filled out completely, the signature must be notarized, and include a copy of a state ID.
The couple that wishes to apply for a Marriage License and one witness (everyone needs to be 18 and over)need to fill out the Marriage Application and sign in front of a notary using a state ID. There is a $35.00 application fee and a three day work day waiting period. If a 3-day waiver is needed it may be obtained from the Recorders Office but will need to be signed in front of a District Judge. An additional fee of $5.00 is then collected when the Marriage Application is filed with the Recorders Office.
